FEDERAL SUSTAINABILITY PLAN

The Federal Sustainability Plan lesson plan was developed based on specific objectives set forth by the President of the United States and the Office of the Federal Chief Sustainability Officer to address America’s clean energy pursuit from climate crisis. The documents in their entirety contain scoping for President Biden’s 2021 signed Executive Order that directed the Federal Government to use its scale and procurement capability to achieve the following five determined goals:

1 – 100 percent carbon pollution-free electricity (CFE) by 2030, at least half of which will be locally supplied clean energy to meet 24/7

2 – 100 percent zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) acquisitions by 2035, including 100 percent zero-emission light-duty vehicle acquisitions by 2027

3 – Net-zero emissions from Federal procurement

4 – A net-zero emissions building portfolio by 2045, including a 50 percent emissions reduction by 2032

5 – Net-zero emissions from overall Federal operations by 2050, including a 65 percent emissions reduction by 2030

Objective 1 – Learn about the signed Executive Order and Fact Sheet that reviews and explains how the Federal Government with the Federal Sustainability Plan will work to stop the climate crisis.

Objective 2 – Review how the  Federal Government will work across new building construction, major renovations, and existing real property to electrify systems, decrease energy use, reduce water consumption and cut waste.

Objective 3 – Outlines an ambitious path to prepare Federal agency policy, programs, operations, and infrastructure to adopt adaptive and resilient strategies for future climate impacts.

Objective 4 – Assess how Federal agencies will consider the goals of the Justice40 Initiative when making decisions related to Federal facilities, fleets, and operations.
