This course will begin to explore how the Workspace is being reshaped, redefined and, in some cases, replaced by the emergence of a global computer network. During most of the 20th century, people have worked in offices. That’s where their files were, their desks, where the meetings were held, and where they got their mail. Over the last 20 years “the office” has evolved. First, losing the walls, then getting smaller – going modular, then free form. From the beginning of the 90’s until now, a growing number of office workers have begun to work part-time from home, part-time at the office. They can join a meeting from their computer desktop or by participating in a teleconference. The way people work is going through real change. This course will put forward the idea that the workspace will need to support the new network-centric worker.
