One Architect’s Story:

I have been a registered architect since 1975.  Over the first 25 years, our firm had gone through the transition from pencil, parallel bar and triangles to CAD.  By 1990 we were automated to produce 2D, CAD construction documents.  Conceptual work however, the was still mostly completed with hand sketches.  In 2000, I thankfully discovered SketchUp and this discovery seriously changed the way I explored design options forever.  It allowed me to think in 3D!  WOW!

The ability to automatically generate a 3D view, including walkthroughs, from AutoCad documents was an important addition to the architect’s tools.   SketchUp is one of the premiere tools.  The Design in 3D, Document in 2D course argues that architects, who are almost always good at visualizing in 3D, should utilize tools like SketchUp that allow them to develop their design concepts in 3D.
