Design by Committee
2 HSW Credit Hours
This course recounts a case where an Architect has agreed to provide design and construction drawings for a custom home. The home was to be “designed” by a committee of volunteers that served on the board of a local charity. Once completed, the home would be sold to benefit the charity. The course tries to shed some light on the consensus-building process that was central to arriving at a final design. In addition to following this unique committee driven design process, the course also shows how the Architect was able to maintain control over the decisions he felt should stay in the realm of the Architect, factors he strongly believed did not lend themselves to being controlled by a committee.
