Architect as Owner
2 HSW Credit Hours
This course explores a case study in which an Architect took the lead in putting together a waterfront restaurant. His willingness to go beyond the “arm’s length” consultant role resulted in some important benefits. First, the Architect would secure a full commission to provide Architectural services. There were several Architects that were pursuing the work and by making the deal work for the developer, the commission would become a “sole source” award. Second, the Architect was able to charge a fee to provide development services in addition to his standard Architectural fee. And third, the Architect would own 50% of the restaurant. He would structure the deal so, in three years, he would sell his share to the restaurant operator for a nice financial gain.
