The broad purpose of this course is two-fold:

• First, to place the use of Life Cycle Costing (LCC) in the context of Design – LCC decisions that affect facility planning, programming, design, construction, and operation.
• Second, to demystify LCC by helping non-CPA Architects understand the basic premises of Life Cycle Costing.

Although LCC draws deeply on financial, cost-accounting and economic analysis principles, it’s not an exact science. Despite the acknowledged inexactness, results of properly designed LCC protocols will have useful, reliable, and sufficient orders of magnitude to help design professionals select the best sites, site and building designs, systems, materials and other building components and elements.
