Performance by Design
2 HSW Credit Hours
This course presents a case study that explores the criteria necessary for an office facility to be deemed a High-Performance Workplace – Designed for Performance. Typically, Architects look at a building’s performance in terms of energy consumption, space efficiency (best net to gross square footage) and specifying materials that are durable and easy to maintain. In this case, the client wanted to go beyond these traditional measures and expand the parameters that would define performance. For this client, a State Agency – the Department of Management Services, performance was not just about initial costs, maximizing usable space, operational efficiency or the ongoing cost of maintenance. The High-Performance Workplace would be designed to enhance occupant productivity. This course will provide an inside view of how the client expanded the definition of workplace productivity to include the productivity of the building’s occupants and how this new perspective shaped the design solution.
